District Communications Plan

The Galena R-II School District uses a service called School Messenger for all school notifications. School Messenger utilizes phone calls, SMS text messaging, and email to notify patrons of important details regarding the school district.

All information related to school closings or cancellations will be broadcast via School Messenger. School closings (inclement weather or other reasons) will be broadcast via phone call, email, SMS text message, and on school social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

In order to assure that you are receiving messages from the Galena R-II School District it is important that your contact information (phone number, email address) be current in our Student Information System. If your contact information should change, please notify the office of your child's school building to make the necessary updates.

Galena R-II School District Social Media Guidelines

The purpose of the Galena R-II School District’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages are to facilitate an ongoing dialogue on education issues. We encourage your comments; your ideas and concerns are important to ensure that a broad range of community members are active and informed participants in the discussion. Galena R-II School District reserves the right to modify this policy at any time and Galena R-II School District expressly reserves the right to remove postings from its pages.

Galena R-II School District retains the right to remove or not remove postings. In addition, we expect that participants will treat each other, as well as our district, our employees, and our students, with respect. Postings may be removed if they fall into the follow categories:

  • Contain vulgar or abusive language/graphics, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive terms that target specific ethnic or racial groups
  • Promote services or products (non-commercial links that are relevant to the post or comment are acceptable)
  • Are clearly "off topic" or "spam"
  • Make unsupported accusations
  • Reference employees or students by name 

We won't edit comments to remove objectionable content, so please ensure that your comments contain none of the above.

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include personally identifiable information, such as name, Social Security number, addresses, phone numbers or email addresses in the body of your comment. If you do voluntarily include your name in a comment, which we generally do not recommend, that comment may or may not be removed. In no circumstances will comments be allowed to remain that contain Social Security numbers, addresses, email address, phone numbers or similar personally identifiable information.
